Signed Letter to HLPE on Climate Change Study
The Following letter addresses the High Level Panel of Experts of the Committee on World Food Security, in relation to their current draft report on Climate Change & Food Security (see: http://www.csm4cfs.org/files/SottoPagine/38/hlpe_cc.pdf)
The letter was circulated with the message (found below) from IATP to give CSOs a chance to "sign-on".
This letter has not been facilitated by the CSM, so if you would like more information please contact IATP directly.
Please find attached a letter addressed to the HIgh Level Panel of Experts (HLPE) of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS). It is sent to you for sign-on. The letter expresses our concern that the current draft report of the HLPE on climate change and food security falls too far short of its mandate, risking the credibility of the HLPE as a source for arms-length, evidence-based analysis and recommendations that can help move governments to a more honest and open assessment of the challenges confronting the realization of food security, not least the challenges posed by climate change. This letter is not a detailed set of recommendations for the content of the report, but a wider call for theHLPE to acknowledge its unique and innovative place in the debate, and to make full use of the opportunities that such a place can open. As CSOs, we worked hard to establish the reformed CFS and we supported the creation of the HLPE. Now our concern is to encourage the HLPE to live up to its mandate.
